Insurance, a form of risk management, is protection from a party that agrees to compensate another party in the event of any loss, damage, or injury.

US members automatically receive insurance coverage with the purchase of their membership, provided they have completed their SafeSport or comparable course.
Event/Location insurance is available at an additional charge.
This insurance is based on the number of students that take your classes.
Canadian members may purchase insurance (separate from US insurance).

Skate IA insurance, depending on the circumstances, can potentially cover you in the event of a lawsuit that might be filed by your student, parent, or facility.
Insurance protects you against the risk of any contingent or uncertain loss. Depending on the insurance, Instructors can get coverage on things like injury, property damage, sexual abuse allegations, and more.

The general liability policy is a group policy under SkateIA and contains
Each Occurence $1,000,000
Damage to Rented Premises (Ea Occurrence) $300,000
Med Exp (Any one person) $5,000
Personal & Adv Injury $1,000,000
General Aggregate $3,000,000
Products - Comp/Op Agg $1,000,000
Participant Legal Liab $1,000,000
Accident Medical Per Injury Limit $25,000
Sexual Abuse and Molestation limits of $1,000,000 per occurrence/$1,000,000 aggregate.

This is NOT a group policy, this is your personal policy for your events and/or locations. See above question for limits. You may purchase this policy if the locations where you are teaching are requiring you to add them to the policy.
The policy covers 360 students/attendees and you may purchase for additional students/attendees. There is no limit on how many classes/events each student/attendee can take (for example, 10 students taking 100 classes each is still 10 students under the policy).

A COI is a proof of insurance document that explains the coverages of your insurance. Facilities may require a copy of this for their records.

You must be SafeSport certified (or comparable certification) to obtain membership included insurance. Once you’ve submitted your SafeSport certification to members@skateia.org, you will receive a copy of your insurance policy.

In order for your insurance to be valid, you must be SafeSport certified. If you need instructions on how to get SafeSport certified, please refer to the SafeSport document in the membership portal. At SkateIA, SafeSport certification is good for 3 years.

No, if you need any special wording of any sort you must purchase event/location insurance.

Membership insurance covers you, the Instructor, personally when you renew annually and is included in the cost of your membership.
The event/location insurance should be purchased when you are running events or the location where you teach request that they be added to your policy.
You cannot add a location to your membership insurance policy.

When you are running an event or the location where you teach requests that they be added to your policy, you will need to purchase this event/location policy.

Assuming you are a skate school, each certified Skate IA Instructor should be a member in good standing and have membership insurance. In the event that you need to purchase additional event/location insurance, it will cover the entire skate school (unless you have more than 360 students, in that case you will have to purchase additional coverage).

In order to receive coverage, all instructors should be Skate IA members in good standing and therefore would have individual coverage. If you feel like you need to purchase additional coverage, you may purchase the event/location insurance policy.

If you purchase the event/location insurance, you may request unlimited COIs.

Insurance is valid for the calendar year purchased. For example, if you’ve purchased insurance in 2023, the insurance would’ve been active from January 2023 to the end of December 2023.

You can purchase event/location insurance by clicking on the respective links below. You may also find it on our website.

Once you are SafeSport certified and have submitted the SafeSport certificate to us, you will receive a copy of your insurance. If you lose the copy and need to receive it again, you can email members@skateia.org to resend the COI to you.

Your insurance is effective approximately 7-10 days from your renewal.
Don't forget that you must be SafeSport certified for the insurance to be valid.

Yes, the insurance contains Sexual Abuse and Molestation limits of $1,000,000 per occurrence/$1,000,000 aggregate.

Your first COI will take about 7 business days as the insurance needs to bind your policy. Any further requests after that will only take about 3-4 business days for the insurance company to process.

As long as they are certified Skate IA instructors in active standing, they are covered under our policies.
