Level 1 Certification
It all starts here. Both quad and inline skate friendly, the Level 1 Certification is tailored for skaters who are either brand new at teaching or are existing instructors looking to get a proven method to run a safe and effective skate class. In this certification, you will learn the SkateIA teaching model, which gives you the knowledge to break down ANY skating move into clear and easy to understand steps to set up your students for success regardless of level or learning style. We now offer both in-person and online certifications!

In-person certifications occur in North America, South America, and Europe. They are two and a half days: a 2 hour session hosted on Zoom on theory, followed by two full days (9am to 5pm) of in-person training and testing with skates.

Online
$395 - Insurance included!
Get certified no matter where you are in the world! The online certification is a mix of self-study content (including professionally produced videos) and personal Zoom sessions with your SkateIA examiner for feedback and testing. We offer this as a one-to-one program so timing and scheduling can fit your needs. Most candidates finish in 10-14 days, and you can start today!

Inline or quad skates with a heel brake or toe stops

V-Walk (teach and demo)
Basic Stride (teach and demo)
Pivot (left side - teach and demo)
Backwards Skating (pizza walk, stroking, swizzles - teach and demo)
Parallel Turns (teach and demo)
Crossovers in a circle (one side - demo only)
Transitions (forwards to backwards, backwards to forwards - demo only)
and ONE of the following:
Powerslide (any version - demo only)
J-hook stop for quads (demo only)
Hockey stop (just a stop and not a slide - demo only)
Spin stop (demo only)

PAYMENT AND WAIVERS
The program must be fully paid for and waivers signed prior to the start of the cert. No exceptions.
SHOWING UP
Candidates must attend all session hours. This is not negotiable so please make all arrangements ahead of time.
GEAR
Safety is a key component of our certs and likewise, our insurance coverage requires it.
TESTING
In order to pass your certification, you need at least an 85% in each:
Written test on theory and methods
Skating Skills test
Teaching test
REFUNDS
Once you register, we offer no refunds. However, you have two years to complete your certification–whether attending another in-person or online certification. Anyone cancelling within seven days may forfeit the certification funds in full as in-person programs are set based on a necessary number of attendees.
INCOMPLETE CERTS
Stuff happens, and we encourage you to work with your Examiner to complete your certification. If you failed in any of the three testing areas, your Examiner will work with you on your options. We will endeavor to assist you in completing your certification, however, it is not required that we do so.
INSURANCE
Insurance is included to people in the USA who have completed their certification. You must also be SafeSport certified to be insured. You will have a Certificate of Insurance created in your name.
Certificates of Insurance that come with your membership cannot be modified in any way. If you are planning to teach at events/locations that require their name to be put on the certificate, you may purchase additional insurance from us that will allow you to add specifics to your certificate.
